Dr. Reyhaneh Maktoufi (USJLP 2025, 2026) is an Iranian-American National Geographic Explorer, a researcher, and a communication trainer, strategist, and consultant. With 15 years of experience, Rey helps train experts to find authentic ways to share impactful stories and build trust with their audiences.

She loves finding creative ways to talk about the science of communication, including co-producing, hosting, and illustrating PBS|NOVA’s Sciencing Out, co-creating the SciComm Hotline podcast, and making explainers and comics on social media. Previously, she was a Misinformation Fellow at NOVA and a Science Communication Fellow at HHMI and the recipient of the National Geographic Wayfinder Award. In her free time, she enjoys practicing Iaido and Kendo.
