Nominate / Support a Candidate for USJLP

The United States-Japan Foundation is always on the lookout for rising stars and thought leaders from every imaginable field and background, and we welcome your assistance to attract and support the very best and brightest talent in the U.S. and Japan to join the USJLP network. Whether you’re introducing a new prospect or formally supporting a candidate planning to apply, there are multiple ways to get involved.

Eligibility & Qualifications

Citizenship: U.S. or Japanese
Age: Candidates must be 28–42 years old at the start of the first conference they attend.
Leadership: At least five years of professional experience with clear signs of leadership, influence, or high potential in their field.
Language: Comfortable expressing themselves in English.

Personal Referrals
(For Active Applicants)

If you know someone who plans to apply to USJLP, you may submit a Candidate Referral Form to share why you believe they would be a strong fit. This referral becomes part of the applicant’s official file and should be completed with the candidate’s awareness or at their request.

Each applicant is required to submit one official referral by the application deadline and may include up to two official referrals. Referrals are retained for future review if the candidate does not apply in the current cycle.
