The United States-Japan Foundation (USJF) is pleased to announce the launch of a new series, Grantee Profile, which highlights the work of organizations and individuals supported by USJF grants. This series offers a closer look at the projects funded through our initiatives, showcasing the diverse ways that U.S.-Japan collaboration is fostering positive change across fields such as education, civil society, the arts, and public policy. We believe that grantmaking is about more than funding—it’s about relationships, trust, and long-term impact. The Grantee Profile series captures those stories, one project at a time.
Each profile is based on a short interview with project leaders and offers readers an accessible, behind-the-scenes look at the motivations, challenges, and aspirations driving their work. The series is intended not only to celebrate the achievements of our grantees, but also to promote deeper dialogue around the shared challenges and opportunities facing communities in both countries.
The first three profiles feature projects that represent the wide range of this work:
-
Diamond Diplomacy (Center for Independent Documentary), a film project chronicling the 150-year history of baseball as a vehicle for cultural diplomacy between Japan and the United States
-
AlphaMundi Foundation’s Green Growth Alliance, an initiative linking American and Japanese mentors with African entrepreneurs working at the intersection of climate action and gender equality
-
LEDGE, Japan’s first full-time public interest litigation organization, working to expand access to justice through partnerships with U.S. pro bono experts.
We invite you to explore the Grantee Profile as they are published and learn more about the remarkable efforts shaping the future of U.S.-Japan relations.
