Atsushi Shiraki

Atsushi Shiraki (USJLP 2024, 2025) is an associate professor at the University of the Ryukyus Law School and a divorce counsel qualified in Japan, New York, and Maryland. His academic interests include conflict of laws, family law, and transnational litigation. As a Fulbright Scholar, he studied at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School and the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, William S. Richardson School of Law, and has served as a visiting scholar at Columbia Law School and Waseda University. While teaching as a professor in Okinawa, he, as a divorce counsel, represents clients in transnational matrimonial disputes, especially between the U.S. and Japan, based in Tokyo. As a board member of Human Rights Watch Tokyo Office, he also engages in pro bono work to seek accountability for human rights violations committed by authoritarian regimes, including North Korea.
