The United States-Japan Foundation (USJF) today launched USJF Forum, a new digital series that convenes expert voices from the USJF Community to examine pressing issues shaping the bilateral relationship and the broader Indo-Pacific region.
The Forum brings together concise, expert perspectives on timely themes ranging from security and diplomacy to economic policy, civil society, and cultural exchange. Each installment features contributions from across the program's multidisciplinary network of scholars, policymakers, and practitioners, reflecting diverse viewpoints and real-world expertise.
The inaugural Forum addresses one of the most consequential questions facing the region today: the future of Asian security. Contributors examine whether recent developments—including Japan's debate over constitutional revision and expanded defense capabilities, the deepening of U.S. regional alliances through the Quad and AUKUS, and rising tensions in the Taiwan Strait and South China Sea—signal a fundamental strategic realignment in the Indo-Pacific or reflect tactical responses to domestic political pressures.
Drawing on expertise from fields including international relations, defense policy, economics, and regional studies, the Forum showcases the depth and breadth of the USJF network while demonstrating the Foundation's role as a convener of meaningful dialogue across the Pacific.
