Haruto Okabe, Japan Representative of the United States-Japan Foundation (USJF), has been selected as a recipient of the BEYOND AWARD 2026, presented by Business Insider Japan.
The BEYOND AWARD 2026 recognizes boundary-crossing individuals and organizations that create new value by moving beyond existing frameworks such as national borders, industries, generations, and gender. Under the 2026 theme, “GLOBAL & BORDERLESS,” the award highlights practitioners whose work connects contexts and perspectives to shape new approaches to social and economic challenges. Recipients were selected by an advisory board of experts in global business and social innovation, together with the Business Insider Japan editorial team.
According to the award committee, Okabe was recognized as a boundary-crossing leader who connects Japan and the United States while advancing new approaches to philanthropy in Japan. Drawing on experience in strategy consulting and academic study abroad, he has worked to build ecosystems that transform private capital into a driver of social change and was selected as a next-generation social impact leader for these efforts.
As Japan Representative, Okabe leads the Foundation’s Japan strategy and works with civil-society leaders to strengthen Japan’s social impact ecosystem and deepen ties between Japan and the United States. Prior to joining USJF, he worked at Bain & Company in Tokyo and Dubai and later earned a Master's in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School. He holds a BA in International Relations from the University of Tokyo.
More information on the BEYOND AWARD 2026 and its recipients is available on the announcement page, and an interview with Okabe on addressing common challenges faced by nonprofits with a global perspective can also be found on the Business Insider Japan website.
