Kyoichi Sasazawa

Kyoichi Sasazawa (USJLP 2007, 2008) is an award-winning Japanese journalist and a Project Professor in International Journalism at Juntendo University Faculty of International Liberal Arts. He has previously worked for The Yomiuri Shimbun, Japan's leading national newspaper, and served as a science writer, Washington DC correspondent, a lecturer at UC Berkeley J-School, Geneva Bureau Chief, and a Senior Writer/Senior Research Fellow, the highest position of the staff writer in the company, in charge of foreign affairs and science.

Sasazawa has contributed articles and commentaries on global issues, including climate change, pandemics, nuclear non-proliferation, and geopolitics, for the Yomiuri as well as other international news media, frequently appearing as a commentator on TV news shows. He has also published single-authored books on the global issues and history of science, some of which were awarded like "Sekai-ichi Nagai Tetsudo Tunnel (The World Longest Railway Tunnel)", which won the Grand Prize of the Ninth Non-Fiction Award for Children by the Japan Association of Children's Literature in 2022. SASAZAWA did a BSc in geology and paleontology at Tohoku University and was awarded an MA with Merit in Archaeology and Heritage at the University of Leicester.
