Japan Representative, United States-Japan Foundation
The United States-Japan Foundation is hiring a full-time Tokyo-based executive to shape and implement our new focus on the social impact ecosystem in Japan. The ideal candidate will be an experienced bilingual professional with a proven entrepreneurial track record and ties to Japan's philanthropic and nonprofit sectors.

About the job:
This person will be responsible for helping craft and carry out a new strategy for the Foundation, working closely with, and supporting, leaders in Japan's civil society, aiming to strengthen and expand the country's social impact ecosystem.
The Japan Representative will help administer our current grants program, while also presenting new ideas and creative approaches for how we can boost impact in Japan, leveraging the Foundation's other assets. Those include our wide network of US-Japan Leadership Program members, as well as our ability to hold events and to issue publications in both the U.S. and Japan.
While we do not raise funds, we are eager to find funding partners to help us maximize the social impact of our investments. We will look to this person to work with Foundation colleagues in ramping up that effort. 
The Representative will be the public face of these initiatives and will be expected to present and promote them through meetings, symposia, public appearances, and publications.
This person will report directly to the Tokyo-based Vice President - Managing Director, Japan & Grants, and will work closely with the Foundation's U.S.-based President.

About the applicant:
Candidates must have:
*A significant experience working with Japanese nonprofits, foundations, or intermediary organizations in that space -- or have demonstrable entrepreneurial experience, reshaping and reimagining an enterprise or sector
*Professional proficiency in written and spoken Japanese and English
*Legal authorization to work in Japan, without the need for sponsorship
These skills/experiences are a plus:
*Management of staff/budget
*Event organization
*Public speaking/writing in both Japanese and English
*Interaction with nonprofits/foundations in the U.S.

Location / Hours:

This position is full-time (40 hours/week).
It is based in Tokyo and this manager is expected to work daily from our Akasaka office, with some flexibility for occasional remote work.
The position requires periodic off-hours work (early mornings, evenings, and weekends) to attend virtual meetings, and communicate, with U.S.-based staff. The job will also involve some travel to the U.S.
