US-Japan Foundation Honors The Honorable Yasuhiro Nakasone, Prime Minister of Japan 1982-1987

Tokyo, Japan – November 2009

The United States – Japan Foundation awarded Honorable Yasuhiro Nakasone, Prime Minister of Japan from 1982-1987, with its Distinguished Service Award on November 15, 2009 at its Board Meeting in Tokyo, Japan. Mr. Nakasone was honored for his effective and bold leadership during one of the most difficult periods in the postwar relationship between the United States and Japan in addition to his broad strategic vision of the US-Japan partnership in East Asia.

Previous Distinguished Service Award recipients include: Ambassador Thomas S. Foley, US Ambassador to Japan 1997-2001; Ambassador Yoshio Okawara, Japan’s Ambassador to the US 1980-1985; Mr. Tadashi Yamamoto, JCIE Founder and President; and Ambassador Walter F. Mondale, Former Vice President 1977-1981 and US Ambassador to Japan 1993-1996.
