US-Japan Foundation Honors Mr. Tadashi Yamamoto in Shimoda, Japan

Shimoda, Japan – April 2008

The United States – Japan Foundation gave its third Distinguished Service Award to Mr. Tadashi Yamamoto, President of the Japan Center for International Exchange (JCIE) on April 5, 2008 at its Board Meeting in Shimoda, Japan. Mr. Yamamoto was honored for his life-time commitment to promoting intellectual exchange between the United States and Japan.

Mr. Yamamoto has promoted policy-oriented intellectual dialogue and policy research through the Global ThinkNet Program, including the Shimoda Conference series, Trilateral Commission, Japan-U.K. 21st Century Group, Japan-German Forum, and the Japan –Korea Forum. He has also promoted the development of Japan’s civil society and its involvement in international cooperation through the CivilNet Program with includes the Friends of the Global Fund, Japan, and diverse NGO exchange programs. Through Parliamentary Exchange Programs such as the U.S.-Japan Parliamentary Exchange, Congressional Exchange, and the Japan-Australia Political Exchange he has promoted dialogue and study among politicians.
