Jeffery W. Yabuki, the former CEO of Fiserv Inc., has joined the United States-Japan Foundation Board of Trustees.
Yabuki was CEO of Fiserv from December 2005 to May 2020, where he nearly tripled revenue and delivered an unprecedented shareholder return of 969% through 2019. Under his leadership, the organization evolved from a traditional holding company into a unified, global leader in financial and innovative payments technology. Today, Fiserv has a market capitalization of more than $120 billion.
He is currently the Chairman of Motive Partners, a specialist private equity firm powering the forefront of global fintech. In this role, he also serves as Chairman and CEO of InvestCloud, a global leader in Wealth Management Technology. Yabuki has been named among the most innovative leaders in America by Forbes magazine for his transformational impact in business and has been elected to the Wisconsin Business Hall of Fame.
“Jeff brings to the Foundation multiple assets: a stellar career in the financial technology industry, extensive board experience in both the corporate and nonprofit worlds, a track record of philanthropic leadership, deep ties to the Midwest, and a connection to his Japanese roots,” said USJF Board Chair Lawrence K. Fish. “We are excited to be able to add his powerful perspective to our board.”
Yabuki notes, “It is an honor and privilege to serve this distinguished organization focused on strengthening bi-lateral relationships through leadership development, innovation, and shared philanthropy while engaging more deeply and actively in my Japanese heritage.”
Under Yabuki's leadership, Fiserv was named a World’s Most Admired Company by FORTUNE initially in 2007 – and 11 of 12 years – including the last eight years in a row through 2020. The Fiserv brand also became more widely known with the naming rights of Fiserv Forum, the home of the NBA Champion Milwaukee Bucks.
Prior to Fiserv, Yabuki was Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at H&R Block for six years and held a progression of senior leadership positions over 12 years at American Express after starting his career as a CPA.
Yabuki serves as a board member for the Royal Bank of Canada, Nasdaq and as Chairman of Sportradar. He also chairs the Milwaukee Art Museum Board of Trustees, is a Trustee at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and is on the board of Project Healthy Minds.
Yabuki is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, Lubar Graduate School of Business. He received an honorary Ph.D. in Business and delivered the commencement address for the university at the May 2024 graduation.
As part of a continued passion to help others realize their full potential, he founded The Yabuki Family Foundation in 1999 to support innovative initiatives that tackle some of the world’s toughest problems, with a particular focus on mental and emotional health, family, education, arts, and social justice.
The United States-Japan Foundation was established in 1980 with the mission of improving relations between the two countries. It has since given out more than $100 million in grants and oversees the US-Japan Leadership Program with a network of 500 fellows from the two countries.
Yabuki will join on the USJF board: Chair Fish, Vice Chair Kohei Itoh, Wendy Cutler, Richard E. Dyck, Stan Kasten, Lin Kobayashi, James M. Kondo, Santa Ono, Kazuyo Sejima, Donna Tanoue, and Keiko Tashiro.
