The United States-Japan Foundation (USJF) will take part as a sponsor and exhibitor at FRJ (Fundraising Japan) Special 2025, one of Japan’s premier gatherings for nonprofit professionals. Organized by the Japan Fundraising Association (JFRA), the event will take place on December 6 in Tokyo, with an accompanying online program, FRJ On Demand, available to participants nationwide.

Now in its latest edition, FRJ Special brings together leaders from across Japan’s nonprofit, corporate, and philanthropic sectors to exchange practical fundraising knowledge and explore new approaches to social impact. Through keynote talks, workshops, and networking opportunities, participants share insights on donor engagement, sustainability, and professional standards for fundraisers.

USJF’s participation in FRJ Special 2025 underscores its commitment to supporting the growth of Japan’s nonprofit ecosystem and fostering connections between U.S. and Japanese philanthropic practices. Haruto Okabe, USJF’s Japan Representative, will take part in four sessions throughout the program. He will facilitate a lunchtime discussion titled “Between Uniqueness and the World: Japan’s Civil Society and Philanthropy at a Crossroads amid U.S. Shifts,” exploring how global changes are reshaping both American and Japanese philanthropy. Later that day, he will join a panel on “The Evolving Role of Funders and the Future of Foundations,” focusing on trust-based partnerships and collective impact. Okabe will also appear in two FRJ On Demand sessions—“Challenges and Prospects for Japanese Philanthropy” and “Fundraisers as Entrepreneurs”—available online as part of a library of over 30 recorded sessions accessible for 102 days following the event.

“Events like FRJ Special showcase how Japan’s fundraising community continues to evolve and inspire,” Okabe noted. “We’re honored to contribute to conversations that help nonprofits achieve lasting social impact.”

JFRA, an approved nonprofit organization, has played a central role in nurturing Japan’s culture of giving since its establishment in 2009. Its flagship FRJ conference series has become the country’s largest platform for those working to strengthen nonprofit management and resource development.

USJF encourages nonprofit professionals, fundraisers, and supporters of Japan’s social sector to join this important gathering and connect with peers driving the future of philanthropy.
