Ms. Kelly H. Nixon

Program Director, US-Japan Leadership Program

Kelly Nixon joined the Foundation in 2010 and has over a decade-long career working in and with Japan. In her role as Program Director she plans and coordinates the operations of the US-Japan Leadership Program in the United States and also leads the Program’s online and print presence.

Kelly majored in International Business at UNC-Greensboro and pioneered the university’s first exchange program to Japan, studying Japanese at Nagoya University of Foreign Studies for her junior year abroad. After graduating in 2002 she was selected for the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme and spent three years teaching high school English in the northern prefecture Iwate.

Upon returning to the U.S., Kelly moved to New York in 2007 to work for Japan Airlines as an Executive Assistant in the office of the CEO of the Americas, and eventually took on a dual role as PR Coordinator for the New York region. Kelly also served as an Executive Officer for the JET Alumni Association of New York for four years, managing the finances of the 501(c)(3) organization, as well as large scale projects such as the JETAA National Conference and JETAA USA Japan Earthquake Relief Fund.

Kelly recently earned a certification in digital and graphic design at Parsons The New School for Design. In her spare time she enjoys cooking, live shows, improv, and the pursuit of the best bowl of ramen in NYC.
