Program Highlights
The Foundation has provided over $90 million in grants to deepen US-Japan understanding and friendship since our inception in 1980. Our US-Japan Leadership Program connects next generation leaders in both countries and our awards recognize key individuals that bring both nations together.
The United States-Japan Foundation offers grants in the areas of pre-college education, communication / public opinion, and US-Japan policy studies in an effort to enhance understanding between Americans and Japanese.
In honor of Elgin Heinz for his commitment to educating students about Asia and for his inspiration in the field of pre-college education, the Elgin Heinz Teacher Award recognizes exceptional teachers who further mutual understanding between Americans and Japanese.
